Study Task One - Type In Context Presentation.

The task was to create an engaging presentation in order to convey our initial ideas and concepts for the brief and try to get feedback from the group.

For the presentation I decided not to include any text as not to distract from the images. This way people can give the images their full attention whilst listening to my narrative/rationale behind taking the images.

As part of the presentation I outlined some brief ideas I had been considering. The main one that I posed to the group in order to get feedback and help with my decision making was one regarding the quality of the images. As all the images had been taken on an iPhone whilst out and about, the images aren't the best quality. I had thought about screen printing the images in a way that isolates the text, meaning that the quality of the photography would become less important as long as the text was clear. The main feedback I received for this was that at this point in time it may be too early to be considering production in that sense but it could prove to be an interesting idea.

I feel like if i had prepared for this presentation more, my ideas and rational would have come across in a more clear and concise fashion making the presentation a little more engaging than it ended up. However at this early stage it was hard to talk about the images as we hadn't received the brief when taking them and at this early stage i still had no idea how i was going to use the images.

Summer Project - Type In Context.

For my summer project, type in context, I focused on typography from signage throughout Barcelona and Madrid.

The theme of my work would be how the typography translates from a tourists point of view. I looked specifically at how the type represented the establishment and whether it successfully represented the business. I looked at both Spanish and English signs commenting on how me and other tourists may perceive it but also looking at standard elements of type such as stroke width and whether it was serif or sans serif.

Also, throughout the summer I took the opportunity to reflect on my personal practice and sought out things that would inspire me to create my own personal work outside of uni work, this continues to be something i'm working on.

I also visited a few art exhibitions/museums to further broaden my knowledge and ideas regarding art. Specifically I visited the Reina Sofia which had a lot of zines made in the 60's/70's  which inspired possibilities for perhaps my own zine this year.
